What’s the vision requirement for Florida drivers?
According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, all first-time Florida drivers, and those renewing their Florida driver’s license, are required to pass a vision test if processed in person. All drivers 80 years of age or older are required to pass a vision test regardless of where the license is processed (in person, by mail or online). You must submit a report of eye exam to a Florida Driver License Office showing that minimum vision standards are met in order to be considered for a driver license. Minimum vision acuity in both eyes must be 20/70 or better with corrective lens.
What happens if you fail your vision test at the DMV?
If you fail your eye exam, the DMV may place a restriction on your license. Types of restrictions could include: Requiring you to wear corrective lenses. Restricting where and/or when you may drive (for instance, during daylight hours only)

My right eye has a scar going across so things are blurry my left eye seems pretty good but the doctor said I’m just one step away from having good vision and then he said I hope you have someone good when they run your test kind of scared me. I’m getting glasses for my left eye and he said the other one he cannot do anything because of a scar. If with the glasses one eye is working correctly. Will I pass the driving test?
Hello Vincent,
Hope all is well in your world and this message finds you well.
Thank you for reaching out! Here’s the response to your question:
If one of your eyes does not meet the FL DMV vision requirements, your eye care provider is able to complete the Eye Examination form found at the link below:
FL DMV Eye Examination Form
Provided that you meet all the other requirements on the form, you should be all set for the vision section. As for the driving test, it will be up to the test instructor to decide based on your overall performance.
